With breath-taking architecture around every corner, Glasgow's historic attributes extend behind some ornate facades. The Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum is a highlight, housed in an iconic red sandstone building which sits next to the beautiful Kelvingrove Park. Pioneering Glaswegian architect and designer, Charles Rennie Mackintosh, has several works throughout the city; Mackintosh House, a collection of items from his original home, the stunning House for an Art Lover in its tranquil parkland setting, and the Mackintosh at the Willow, restored from Miss Cranston's original Tea Rooms in Sauchiehall Street. Many of the buildings in Glasgow have appeared in movies and plenty have been subject to some colourful makeovers by local artists. If retail therapy is your bag, you'll find the big names (and many smaller ones too!) on the pedestrianised Buchanan Street, which links Argyle Street and Sauchiehall Street, and is known as the ‘Style Mile’, a major fashion hub for any budding fashionistas. For a more quirky, vintage or independent shopping experience, head for the city's neighbourhoods to uncover some delightful treasures, especially in areas around the West End, which has some quintessentially bohemian offerings.

Time for a tipple? Take a tour of the historic Wellpark Brewery, home to Tennants, or the West Brewery where they create German-inspired beers with a unique Glasgow flavour. Alternatively, take in one of Glasgow's many authentic pubs such as The Pot Still, or Sloans, well known for their famous Friday ceilidh and many a wedding. Glasgow offers a fine selection of bars and restaurants and many of which are in Ashton Lane, a picturesque cobbled street adorned with fairy lights, hidden away in the city's West End. Comedy clubs and theatres abound mean you will always find live entertainment in this vibrant city.

Glasgow was the first city in the UK to be designated a UNESCO City of Music so you can be confident that the gigs happening around the city will be truly awesome, whatever the genre. Whether you head to The SSE Hydro, or the iconic Barrowland Ballroom, or smaller venues such as King Tut’s or SWG3, you will find yourself surrounded by like-minded music fans, creating an atmosphere that will be hard to beat.
