Sultan Abdul Halim Airport, which sometimes is referred to as Alor Setar Airport, is situated approximately 13 km south west of Alor Setar town. The airport has a single passenger terminal which was constructed in 2006, at the same time the runway was extended to accommodate larger aircraft. Sultan Abdul Halim Airport is now capable of handling aircraft up to the size of an Airbus A330. In addition to passenger activity, the airport also acts as a training base for The Royal Malaysian Air Force.
